MF Husain was one of the most famous artists of India, recognized all over the world for his buoyant paintings that would bring life to pictures. Born in 1915 in Pandharpur, India he began his artistic journey at a young age.
In his splendid career, Husain tried his hand at large-scale canvases that depicted scenes from Indian folktales and epics, such as Ramayana & Mahabharata. He was also known for his use of vibrant colors, bold brushstrokes, and a dynamic composition that created momentum & vibrant energy.
Referred to as the ‘Picasso of India’ by Forbes magazine his works are in collections National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Tate Modern in London, and the National Museum of Islamic Art in Doha among others.
He has also been awarded Padma Bhushan & Padma Vibhushan – two of India’s highest civilian honours.
